Crafting Success on My Terms: Balancing Motherhood, Business, and Well-being
As a business owner and a mother, I've experienced firsthand the intense juggle of managing professional growth alongside personal well-being. I've shared my previous struggles with burnout and the realisations that led me to redefine what success means in my life and business.
This journey wasn't just about finding what works—it was about creating a business that truly reflects my personal values and aspirations.
From Overwhelmed to Aligned: My Personal Journey
My adventure in business has taught me countless personal lessons, but one of the most pivotal was understanding that more money and growth weren't directly equating to more happiness or fulfillment for me. There came a point more recently where, despite the financial success, I realised I wasn't feeling any more successful or joyful in my business.
This prompted me to pause and really question: What do I want my life and business to look like now?
This reflection led to significant changes. I reshaped my business model not just to be profitable but to provide even more flexibility and freedom so precious to me. I reduced the number of ongoing client projects to focus on more impactful, fulfilling work that also allowed for significant personal time—specifically, taking three months off each year to be fully present with my family during school holidays. Interestingly, these changes unintentionally made my business more profitable.
Practical Steps to Align Your Services with Your Goals
Understanding the need for change is one thing; implementing it is another. Here are some steps I've taken, that might help you align your business services with your personal and professional goals:
Evaluate Your Current Offerings:
Look at your services through a new lens. Which are most aligned with your goals? Which are profitable but exhausting? What are most impactful to your clients? What do you enjoy most? This evaluation will help you decide what to keep, tweak, or eliminate.
Define Your Non-Negotiables:
What must your business provide for your life? For me, it was clear: time with my family. Define your own non-negotiables to guide your business decisions.
Restructure or Introduce New Offers:
Based on your goals and non-negotiables, structure your services. Maybe it means creating more packaged offers or even removing services from your offerings.
Implement Systems for Efficiency:
Use tools and systems to manage your workload more efficiently. Automation can take care of routine tasks, allowing you to focus on what truly matters.
If my journey resonates with you, I encourage you to take a similar step back. Assess your business model, align it more closely with your personal values, and make changes that support not just your financial goals but also your life’s joys and priorities.
